Robert Steel

     Robert Steel was born circa 1841 at Dundee, Angus, Scotland. The spelling of the family name Steel varies between 'Steel' and 'Steele.' He was a cooper, fish monger and fish merchant. He married Jane Daly at Berwick, Northumberland, England, on 3 April 1865. Their marriagedate varies on each of the Scottish birth registrations of their children.1
He was listed as head of household in the 1871 census at Fisher Brae, Coldingham, Berwickshire, Scotland. Those recorded in the household were: Robert Steele, head; Jane Steele, wife; Mary Steele, daughter; Jane Steele, daughter; Margaret Steele, daughter; Alice Steele, daughter.2
He was the informant for, and present at, Ann Steele's birth at Eyemouth, Berwickshire, Scotland, on 16 June 1875.3
