     Mary Pirie was born on 12 August 1842 at Portknockie, Banffshire, Scotland.1,2 She was the daughter of William Pirie and Ann Pirie. Mary Pirie was baptized on 14 August 1842 at Parish of Cullen, Banffshire, Scotland.1 Her family was known by the tee-name of "Coull". Her family was known by the bye-name of "Willackie".
She was listed as head of household's daughter in the 1851 census at 24 Portknockie, Banffshire, Scotland. Those recorded in the household were: Ann Pirie, head; James Pirie, son; Ann Pirie, daughter; Mary Pirie, daughter; William Pirie, son; Helen Pirie, daughter.3
