James Smith

     James Smith was born illegitimate circa 1880 at Portessie, Banffshire, Scotland.1 He was the son of Alexander Smith and Mary Cowie. His family was known by the tee-name of "Currie".
He was listed as head of household's son in the 1891 census at 36 Portessie, Banffshire, Scotland. Those recorded in the household were: Alexander Smith, head; Mary Smith, wife (sic); Mary Smith, daughter; John Smith, son; David Smith, son; James Smith, son; George Smith, son; Catherine Smith, daughter; William Smith, son; Barbara Smith, daughter.2,3
James Smith was a fisherman. He married Isabella Reid at Portgordon, Banffshire, Scotland, on 27 December 1906.1 He was the informant for Alexander Smith's death at 36 Peterhythe, Portessie, Banffshire, Scotland, on 26 June 1914.4,5
