     James Wood was born on 10 April 1828 at Portknockie, Banffshire, Scotland.1,2 He was the son of James Wood and Janet Wood. James Wood was baptized on 18 April 1828 at Parish of Cullen, Banffshire, Scotland.1 His family was known by the tee-name of "Peter".

James died on 8 September 1857 at sea about 10 miles off Banff, Banffshire, Scotland, at age 29. He perished with the Portknockie fishing boat 'James' that was found floating bottom upwards about 10 miles off Banff by the Schooner 'Braes o' Moray'.2
