     Joseph Innes was born on 1 February 1869 at Parish of Fordyce, Banffshire, Scotland.1 He was the son of John McLean Innes and Jane Smith. His family was known by the tee-name of "Dey".
He was listed as head of household's son in the 1881 census at 29 Sandend, Banffshire, Scotland. Those recorded in the household were: John Innes, head; Jane Innes, wife; Isabella Innes, daughter; Joseph Innes, son; Margaret Innes, daughter.2
Joseph Innes was a fisherman. He married Mary McLeay at Sandend, Fordyce, Banffshire, Scotland, on 1 July 1892.3,4,5 Joseph died on 22 December 1894 at sea, Portsoy Bay, Banffshire, Scotland, at age 25. He perished with the fishing boat 'Daisy' BF 1067 that foundered about 1 mile off Portsoy in a gale that swept over the British Isles on 21-22 December 1894. The entire crew of four brothers was lost. They were John Innes, George Innes, William Innes and Joseph Innes.6,7,8,5 He was buried after 23 December 1894 at Fordyce Churchyard, Fordyce, Banffshire, Scotland.7
