     Alexander Pirie was born on 28 August 1844 at Portknockie, Banffshire, Scotland.1 He was the son of John Pirie and Helen Wood. Alexander Pirie was baptized on 9 September 1844 at Parish of Cullen, Banffshire, Scotland.1 His family was known by the tee-name of "Buxer".

The Valuation Roll for the County of Banff for Year 1875-1876 shows that Alexander Pirie "Buxer" was owner occupier of 219 Portknockie, Banffshire, Scotland.10 He was the informant for Margaret Ann Pirie's birth at Longate Street, Peterhead, Aberdeenshire, Scotland, on 9 September 1876.11,9 He was the informant for William Wood's death at Portknockie, Banffshire, Scotland, on 30 December 1881.12,13 His family was known by the tee-name of "Mason". He was the informant for, and present at, Isabella Pirie's birth at 219 Portknockie, Banffshire, Scotland, on 23 December 1884.14,13,9

It is assumed that the entry 'Alexander Pirie Junr' in the Valuation Roll does not refer to his son who would have been approximately 7 years old.15 He was the informant for Jane Pirie's birth at 219 Portknockie, Banffshire, Scotland, on 3 April 1887.16,17
He was listed as a crew member in the 1891 census at fishing boat 'King Fisher', Westray Pier, Westray, Orkney, Scotland. Those recorded aboard 'King Fisher' were: Jno Pirie Buxer, fisherman master; Alex Pirie Buxer, fisherman; Jno Wood Royal, fisherman; Robert Grant, fisherman; Geo Wood Royal, fisherman; Jno Pirie Buxer, fisherman; Jno Wood Royal, fisherman; Wm Wood, cook.18

It is assumed that the entry 'Alexander Pirie, jr' in the Valuation Roll does not refer to his son who would have been approximately 17 years old.19 John Pirie and Alexander Pirie owned the Zulu fishing boat 'Kingfisher' BF 2073. The boat was advertised for sale in December 1902.20

Alexander died on 12 March 1923 at 15 Harbour Place, Portknockie, Banffshire, Scotland, at age 78.24,13,9 His body was interred on 14 March 1923 at Portknockie, Moray, Scotland, at Lair No. 1370, Hillhead Cemetery.25
